DESCRIPTION:

Offered to University of Montana students this is an opportunity to explore Southern Utah's playground of red-rock, gravel, and epic vistas. In the beautiful Capitol Reef National Park you'll find yourself away from the Moab crowds and in unique, secluded territory. This desert landscape makes for a perfect bikepacking adventure.

In this spring break trip you will learn the many facets of bikepacking that will help you comfortably and safely tour by bike in the backcountry. We will spend the first two days exploring the San Rafael Swell. Here you will have the option to ride singletrack in Goblin Valley, hike the nearby canyons, or ride endless dirt roads. In the evenings your guides will lead discussions and cover topics like navigation and route finding, packing your bike, backcountry safety, and nutrition.

After the first few days of riding and the bikepacking introduction wraps up we will head to Capitol Reef National Park. Here we will head out on a sixty mile loop into the Cathedral Valley spending a night in the backcountry.  The adventure level will most certainly be high but, the daily mileage will be manageable by all. This two day bikepack trip is meant to help you learn to travel as a group and individually. Our goal for this trip is not only to give you the skills needed to succeed, but to also help you leave Utah with a feeling of confidence in your ability to mountain bike and bikepack on your own.

This University of Montana student trip is aimed to provide a great week in Utah for mountain bikers of all skill level.
